I have a 1975 Starcraft with a Johnson 115 Outboard. For the last little while when I try to start it the starter does not engage it just spins without moving up. It enetually starts after the 4th or 5th try. Does the sterter deen rebuilding or is it something more simple?

Re: Not Staring

Your starter is fine. All that is needed is a can of WD40 and any kind of motor oil.
First spray the worm shaft that the gear rides up on with plenty of WD40, as you work the gear up and down on the shaft, until it is free. Actually CLEAN it with the stuff. Once it is clean and moving on it's own, give it a coating of motor oil or 2cycle oil to lube it. That's all there is to it....GAWD, that sounded obscene, didn't it?
