Just replaced my waterpump, followed the instructions per print out from manual the seller of pump sent me, had view of impeller INVERTED in housing for reference, so I held picture and housing upside down over my head just to make sure I got it right, haha, put it all back together, was pretty sure I had all tube lined up- hooked up to muffs, water coming through pee holes, start motor, still going through, but when I put it in gear it was not coming out, I believe there are 3 ports? on on each side and then one on the back? kind of near the big knuckle part of the lower.. I think it was coming out the on in the middle, but wasnt seeing anything out of the side ones.. Also, alot of water was spitting out the two small exhaust ports near the top of lower, right below motor... Did I not get the tubes lined up or is this normal? it ran just fine, and didnt seem to over heat.

After looking at some diagrams, I would have to assume the pump is working correct? If it is coming out of the "patented exshaust holes" that means its going through the power head, I am thinking that the water would not be pushed through the powerhead on just muffs alone? wouldnt the pump need to be turning for that? Although I am unsure because it was coming through the pee holes before I started it, so does it go through the hole system regardless of water pump?

Dunk it in a large barrel about 6" above the pump, and see if it pumps. Idle or fast idle only.

Water level in a barrel should be midway on the lower motor mounts or higher. Up to the bottom of the motor bracket is about as high as you can get in a barrel.

if I do that the water will be above all of the pee spouts, if water is coming out the exhaust ports near the top, it's safe to assume water pump is working correctly right? maybe it just doesn't per in gear?

You should have a fine spray out of the exhaust relief ports higher on the leg if it's pumping. Check your cylinder heads while idling and see if they get hotter than you can comfortably touch. That's the real proof. The "pee spouts" lower are not indicators per se, just places the excess water goes when the motor is running.

Thank you, I have been trying to find a diagram of where the spouts come in to play, so that would make sense that is more so the "extra" so while in gear and going stronger it's getting flushed down the exhaust housing out out the prop, which must be a different compartment?

I replaced my water pump yesterday on my 1985 115 hp and had to rev the engine with the muffs on to get it to pee. Good job.
