I own a 78 Searay with a MCM 260 motor. It has a quadrajet carb which i replaced last year. I also replaced the plugs, wires, ignition coil, distributor and feul pump. The boat ran great the first two times out, picking up right where it left off last year. The third time out it started to bog down around 15oo rpms so i headed for the dock. It died about halfway there and would not restart. I noticed a strong gas smell when it started messing up. I checked compression and it ranges from 148 to 152. I have checked the pump and it is putting out good volume and pressure. The carb primarys spray strong when i depress the accelerator pump. The inlet filter in the carb is clean. The ignition coil shows good strong spark to ground. I checked the spark to plugs with an inline tester and it lights up but not very bright and it pulses slightly. When i pulled the spark plugs they all smelled like gas and one even had a small amount of gas in it. What is a good way to check if the plugs are getting enough spark? Could it be something inside the carb flooding the engine? Any and all help is welcome and appreciated. I hope to spend more time with my boat in the water than in my front yard this year.

Thank you for the reply Bond-o. I replaced the insides of the distributor with rebuild kit (sierra #18-5296-2) The coil with
(Flame Thrower 185466) and the cap with (Sierra 18-5376) It is electronic type distributor with an internal ignitor. Thank you again for your quick response.

Did you change the fuel filter/water separator?

A title like "No start on 78 260" would get a lot more views (and help) than "Please Help"

Re: Not again! Please help.

Thank you for the reply cr2k and the advise Don S. I did change the feul / water separator when it died on the lake. I was still running on last years gas (I added twice the amount recommended of marine stabil when winterized) so i did not change it when i changed the oil at the beginning of season, but i had it ready. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to check the strength of the spark at spark plugs. I even tried running on an auxillary feul tank to see if it was something with the supply, but no luck. I seems to be getting enough, mabe too much, gas. Again, thank you for the responses and i hope we can figure this out.
