Hi all,
I was looking over this forum because I'm trying to scrounge up data on a project I just aquired. It is a 1967 Traveler Neptune 20' OMC Stern drive GM V6 and it needs help. The hull is essentially sound the V6 was recently rebuilt and hasn't been installed since the rebuild. the problem is the gearcases it has the OMC Electric shift and it is in pieces. I have the manual and it doesn't appear that anything major is missing but when I begin looking for parts, all I find is 1975 and up. Would my money be better spent converting to a newer drive? If so which one has the value? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks LS

Re: NOOB sayin hi and question on OMC

Ok so the next question is Should I bother with trying to retrofit another Inboard/outboard or rebuildt the stern incorporating a transom and go with an outboard? I am looking for the best cost:benefit ratio not necessarily getting by on the cheap. Thoughts Ideas? The outboard solution would open up some cabin room and I could put in some fishing seats. HMMMM what would be the pitfalls to that solution?

Thanks

I'd do it by buying a Donor Boat,+ swapping everything into the hull I Wanted..........

I've known several people who did several boats with O/B conversions,........
Most were Junked shortly after,....... 1 was reconverted to a Mercruiser......
Nobody was Happy with the Handling........

Ok that sounds like good advice. What should I look/look out for (other than staying away from OMC) Will the 150 horse V6 still work for me or do I need to look at a I/O as a complete unit?
