I can't tell by the video, but looks like you left the middle wire hanging in the air....if so, don't do that. You can hurt the ignition by not grounding the wire.

You can swap the coils no problem (to check to see if the problem follows the coil).

I'm a fan of replacing all 3. Then no worries that the other ones are "on their way out".

Why do you think it doesn't sound right?. Hard to tell in the video cause rpms are a bit high, but it seems to idle pretty even

Did u pull the welch plugs on your carbs when you cleaned/rebuilt them? if you did...then
maybe your idle timing is off.

welch plugs?

They are like this one.

There are fuel passages behind them...sometimes gunk gets caught in there. Causing a rough idle. Don't mess with your welch plugs until you have replacements because they can't be reused.

I would check your idle timing first.

Re: NOOB boat owner!!! Whats wrong with the motor.

it should idle high on the hose, there is no back pressure. 1500 may be a little high, but if the motor sits deep it may come down below 1000. My idle RPM's change slightly based on trim, if it's deeper the RPM's are a little lower. Check it floating.

Welch plugs are like a cork, removing them breaks them. You can't reuse them. Behind them are the passages for fuel.

How do plan on "checking" them? You have to use a 'punch' to get them out...and once they are out you have to replace them with new plugs or the carb will be useless until they are replaced.

What happens when you try to lower the rpm at idle?

Re: NOOB boat owner!!! Whats wrong with the motor.

I have new plugs that came in the rebuild kit.

the lowest i could get it to idle was around 1500 to 1700 RPM. If it falls below that it dies.

Re: NOOB boat owner!!! Whats wrong with the motor.

When starting cold engine, the quick start should limit to around 1100?
If not, powerpack has failed, or the quick start does not get initiated.
Remove the black/white from temp sensor into power pack.
Remove the red/yellow from starter relay into powerpack.
Start the engine.
Briefly touch the red/yellow (to powerpack) to B+, engine should lock in 1100 rpm.
Briefly ground the white/black FROM powerpack, engine idle should drop.
If engine idle does not lock when yellow/red is touched on B+, change powerpack.
If idle does not change when black/white FROM pack is grounded, change powerpack.

I will check the power pack first thing in the morning.
And it has never idled at 1100, when starting could it runs about 2000.

I do not see a white/black wire or a yellow/red wire coming from the power pack. 080.jpg
