Hello all! New member and boat owner. I just purchased an 1985 Bayliner 1950 w/Force 125hp motor. Took it out yesterday for the first time and it ran decent. I definately needs a tune, but I did have 5 people on it one of them riding a knee board so i was pleased.

I have a couple questions.

First, when the engine is in N and I move to Forward or Reverse it grinds a bit and then engages. I assume this is not normal or is it?

Next, the trim stopped working last night when I took the boat out of the water. I had the motor all the way up and put the rod in to hold it in place and then I noted that the down trim quit working. Is it possible I grounded something with the rod and blew a fuse? Haven't investigated yet, but thought I'd ask for suggestions.

Thank you in advance!

Always snap it into gear. Otherwise you have the clutch and gear facings hitting each other rather than engaging.

The down trim actuates a relay under the cowling. Try swapping the two relays, one is for up the other is for down. If the motor goes down and not up, you have a bad relay.

Solved both problems. First, learned how to shift. Next, the problem with the TT was due to a wire going into the relay is loose or not making a good contact. I'm planning on redoing all the wirging anyway to be safe and too since I will be upgrading by putting in a stereo and custom interior lights.

Thanks for the help all!
