Noise from out drive

Have a 2.5 OMC motor and out drive. I have noise coming from lower unit when i put her in forward and reverse. No problems with noise once in . Could this be a shift cable adjustment and if so how do you adjust it. Any help or advice would be great..

Usually the shift cable doesn't need adjustment but cleaning.The drive needs to come off.On the transom shield is a bellcrank that gets gummed up.
Take it apart and remember how it was set.The hole needs to be cleaned along with the crank. Boats.net OMC Cobra Sterndrive Parts TRANSOM MOUNT Diagram #42
Reasemble with LOTS of grease in that area.
Then if that don't help the cable probably need to be replaced.J

Its normal to hear noise as you are shifting into gear. Its the dog clutches engaging.
