Noise from engine compartment when steering left or right

Hello All,
I'm new to boating and am not really a mechanic but don't mind trying to work on things. I purchased a 2002 Bayliner 195 with a mercruiser 3.0 engine about a year ago. When I went to look at it, the guy ran it on muffs and it ran fine at higher rpm's but would sputter and stall at low idle. The guy told me it probably just needed a tune up. After watching many Youtube videos, I went ahead and put in new plugs, wires, distributor cap, drained the old gas, put on new fuel lines, new fuel/water separator, a new fuel pump and new carburetor. I took it out last weekend for the first time and it ran good but it still eventually died at lower rpm's after a minute or two so I'm guessing the carb just needs tweaked a little. My bigger concern is that when we were on the water, when I'd steer it left or right, there would be a noise that I guess I'd say was a fairly noticeable hum that was constant until I'd steer back straight and it would stop. I have no idea what kind of maintenance the guy did on it before I purchased it - my guess is not a lot. So, I'm wondering if this could be a gimble bearing or a u-joint? Or a bad steering cable or just needs lubed up? I'm not sure off the top of my head how many miles are showing on it. I looked and it doesn't appear to have power steering so it can't be that. I haven't tried it on muffs yet at home but plan to try that to see if it still does it. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

If the noise is constant while holding a turn and you don't have power steering, it's probably gimbal or u-joints. Buy an alignment tool, pull the drive, and inspect the gimbal bearing alignment and inspect the u-joints. Does the noise change based on how you have the drive trimmed?

Even though you drained the old gas and put on a new fuel water separator, take the canister off and dump it in a jar and see if you have any sediment. If so, put on another new canister, and also check the inlet filter on the carb.

Thanks. The noise stays constant while turning. I didn't check to see if it stayed the same while changing the trim but I'll check that to see.

This is a view of my engine - does anyone see where the power steering pump would normally be expected? I’m just not seeing one.

This is an underneath shot of my outdrive. Where the hoses attach - does that metal just look corroded to you guys or is it something else?

There is usually an anode there unless you have a mercathode system. That looks more like a beat up mercathode electrode but I can’t tell for sure

What does it mean when you have power steering. Recently i put a new transom assembly and drive on my boat. Also replaced the power steering rack. When i turn st 1500 rpm it vibrates in the wheel and the whole boat. Nothing at higher rpms.

I’d replace that anode…but there is a chance that the look of your pipes there might just be water staining marks Perhaps. Thinking optimistically

Doesn't appear? Are you sure???? A hum.... Your pump is worn. Live with it. I have a 1995 Chevy truck with PS. If I turn wheel, I hear a noise too.

There isn’t a PS pump in that picture I’d say
