my boat got hot on me friday and it has never ran over 175, after some digging into the impeller and housing on the back of my upper unit the metal sleeve had twisted and almost covered up the incoming and outgoing water jackets, and the housing had started to melt around metal piece. I purchased another housing unit, metal piece, and impeller and put it on, and no water. Upon further inspection I noticed a paddle missing off the old impeller, I assumed it was lodged in my system. I took hoses loose everywhere I could and flushed and nothing yet. My thermostat was jammed open and I will have a new one tomorrow to put in it. Last night I put the muffs on it and started it, took the hose loose going into the thermostat housing and no water from impeller pick up, and all the sudden it turned loose and flowed like a fire hose, so I put it back on housing and it killed it. Pulled it back off and no more water. Wondering if piece is stuck somewhere or engine water pump is not working, the yolk shaft on upper unit it tight and only turns when you put in gear and turn by hands, there is no water in engine oil so I dont think anything is cracked. If the missing piece is at bottom of foot can I take off screens and run water backwards and flush, should I take off engine water pump, this whole time there has not been a thermostat in it because i had to get back home from lake and order one. Does anyone have suggestions?

1st get the whole impeller outfit replaced with new parts. once the cap is melted and that metal housing turns or gets a round shape it wont pump water correctly. you were lucky thermostat stuck open, replace it with new. pull hoses from t stat housing to exhaust manifolds etc.
