no warning buzzer

I recentley brought a 1999 elpto 75hp mercury but when I turn the key to on no systems check buzz is heard Ive earthed out the temp sender wire near the power head and the buzzer makes a noise can any one tell me 1/ If its ment to buzz when key is in the on possition before it starts as I read some where that there is a button on the top of the power head for the modals that dont check by the key, mine has that button but it does not make it buzz either. 2/ how can I find why it dont work. The motor is stil on the boat that I brought it on my intensions were to swap motors with a boat that I have had for a while but I want to make sure its all working the way it should before removing it. The motor was purchased new by my uncle, the only owner and he said no one has ever disconnected anything the motor only has 160 hours and has always been serviced by a dealer thanks Gary , I had no idea there was a forum as good as this keep up the good work
