I have a starcraft chieftan IV with a Mercruiser 140 I/O. I can trim down but I cannot trim up or tilt up and down. I have looked at dashboard wiring which seems good, but wondering what is the best way to trouble shoot where to put my efforts in fixing this problem.

Thanks

Do we get any points for guessing the year and type trim system you have?

Ayuh,... It's more likely there's corrosion, or other wirin' issue at the pump, than under the dash...

go look at s/m #4 from this link. look at pp 181 to id your system. look pp 119 for trouble shooting tree.

edit. sorry the pp number are wrong. ya want second page of trim section 5 for id. and about last page of section 2 for trouble shooting.

does the trailer button work? could be a bad trim limit switch, or the up solenoid could be bad

use a test light to figure out the wires at the pump. then jump the pump there gradually adding more variables to you figure out the bugs.

Manual link is a great resource. Thanks for telling me where to look.

I jumped the pump (good suggestion) and it looks like the pump and solenoid work fine so it must be the switch. Thanks all.
