I am trying to install my new Teleflex Rack system on my 16' Marlin ski boat, but cannot get the steering rod into the tilt tube. The hole in the splashwell does not give me enough clearance to have a straight shot when I go coming from the inside. I dont think I can easily feed the rack part of it all the way up to the front through the holes holding all the cables if I secure the tilt tube and feed the cable through the splashwell. Is there an easy way around this without having to take the outboard off and slide it down a couple inches to get that clearance?

take the motor off, and slide it over.

Not at all uncommon. Keep it well greased so you don't have to pull the motor off to clean the corrosion and crud out of it right away.
