No start situation

Hello all, I have a 2006 mercrusier 3.0l I/O. I have had some issues this season with getting it running correctly... It would run but not go past idle without stalling so I did a carb. Now the boat won't start at all it is most definitely spark-related as it won't fire on starter fluid. compression is good at 145-150 in all 4 cylinders. I am getting spark (orange in color) at all but cylinder 3. No matter what plug or wire I use. I replaced the cap and rotor before the carb and it was running. took the carb off about a week ago and put it back on. so the boat sat for a week with no carb. The battery has a good charge 13.8 volts. I was wondering if this could be coil related or if this is cap and rotor related. I don't think the spark is as strong as it needs to be that is why I thought possibly coil... Any thoughts would be great.

Thanks, you have TKS carb and EST ignition

Orange is not a good color for spark (white or Blue) but not ready for a coil yet
Don't use starting fluid, it can break things. Take a tea spoon of gas and drip into the carb, see if it will start

Need to test the components

I just replaced the TKS carb with a standard choke style carb. It is getting fuel. I can smell it and see it on the plugs when cranking for awhile (3x10ish second bursts).

I'm not sure about ignition it does not have points... So if that is EST then yes that is what I have.

Is carb leaking fuel (dripping) down the throat when its cranking?

So when cranking it looks as though fuel gathers on the throttle blades. Is that normal? Or is that a drip that could be causing some problems?

Well good to know that is definitely part of my problem then.... Would the mixture screw being turned out 1.25 turns be to far?

No, 1.25 to 2.25 is within range from my view.
Check the float height, most likely its to high

Alright it's not flooding anymore. Put new plugs, wires, coil in today. Still will not start. Poured new gas down the carb to try to get it to go still nothing.

Also checked all grounds cleaned and tighten still won't fire off. Did another compression test still the same compression. Unsure where to turn from here. Battery is good and the turn over on the motor is good running on the starter.

Is there a way to bypass the man overboard switch to see if it is that?

See if your getting 12V at the coil purple wire with key ON. If its there then the man overboard is connected.

Have you changed cap and rotor? Try running a plug directly off of the coil tower and see if you're getting a nice blue spark from there...

Try putting a jumper wire directly from your battery plus to your coil plus. This will bypass a lot of wiring and switches.

Yes cap and rotor both changed. Tried new coils. Orange spark of the distributor will have to try straight from the coil.

Tried this but got no spark at the coil so I am sure I didn't do something right I ran out of daylight I'll keep trouble shooting tomorrow

You have 12V at the coil, so I would not suggest running jumpers. Jumpers are good for a quick check but can also cause damage if connected incorrectly
