no spark

3.0 1989 mercruiser getting no spark from coil or distributor, I have six volts to pos. side of a new coil..tried tach wire, safety wire disconnects with still no luck. I also replaced ignition switch to no prevail.. i would greatly appreciate any help.

6 volts is too low whatever you have. Is your battery fully charged?

Assuming you have the points system, you probably need a set of points. They get pitted and glazed over from use and sitting and will not work.

points. tried sanding them down, they dont appear to be pitted. i had purple (resistance wire) that was getting very warm with key in the "on" possition.

battery is new and fully charged.. how many volts should i have to coil? motor shows a resistance wire on + side of coil, whats that guy suppose to do?
