can anyone help!!!! i have a 1988 60 hp johnson outboard that will not spark. It cut out while boating on the river and has started since. We have change the power pack metered out all wires what else could it be. Could all 3 coils go at once or do i have to pull apart the timing base and stator????

Re: no spark

Have you tried for spark with the red plug unplugged? That would eliminate the ignition switch or kill switch as a possible cause.

Re: no spark

you do not have to pull anything apart. but you do need to test your stator, power pack and timing base..you will need a multi meter and a DVA adapter and a spark gap tester. look you parts up on CDI electronics web site and download the install sheet, this has the test process for each part. Or just guess at it and start changing parts..I would start with the power pack, then go to stator..probably one of these, you will also need to test or replace regulator/rectifier as a bad one of these can ruin your stator and or power pack.
