no spark

I have a 1980-81 inline six mercury outboard that has always been a hard starter, but have now lost spark in cyl 1,3,5 moved a trigger lead off of #2 coil and p:confused:ut it on #1 and #1 started sparking so is it my trigger or my stator or my switch box not sure how to tell please need help my mechnic has come up short.

Trigger wires need to be moved in pairs.... If you have lost spark on odd cylinders, then it's probably a switch box... but you need to investigate further to be sure...

If you don't have a OHM meter you can check your problem by swapping the red and red/white and the blue and the blue/whhite wires at the switch boxes, it the spark moves to the other 3 cyls then it is the stator and if it stays the same it's the box.
