no spark

I have a 1968 johnson 55hp two stroke three cylnder hydro eletric. I bought the boat got it running, took it out on the water then shut it off and it would not start again. it turns over good. I checked the spark from the spark plugs and no spark. i was wondering if it was the amplifier assembly. if it is not then what is the puropse of the amplifier. there was a wire going to the magneto that was carroded all the way through. I belive it grouned out on the motor and fried somthing maybe the magneto, if so how do you test it and would it have messed up anything else?

you need more info than just that. Like saying your dryer doesn't dry your clothes and asking why.

model #, condition of motor, any new parts added, tested ignition, does the starter engage when turning the key etc..
