I have 1978 80hp mercury and i'm not getting any spark from #3. i pulled #1's plug wire it sparked and also the motor died. the same happened with #2's. however, #4 the motor stayed running, it did have a spark though. #3 had no spark and the motor stayed running. I did a compression test and they were all at 60 I was wondering if there is some kind of formula to figure it out or do i have more troubles than i know. would appreciate any help i could get. Thank You.

Re: no spark??

60psi is pretty low....IMO...

But I'm not very confident to make an assumption as to what is causing the spark problem...

Coils? Can you switch the one on the bad cylinder with one that is good? And then retest?

Re: no spark??

Your spark problem is caused either by a bad coil (ck by switch wires like KLOST said) or a bad switch box. It sounds like the engine is not running on the both carb, Low compression on all cyl. might be the gauge--Bob
