With a spark tester I am getting no spark on the two starboard cylinders. engine runs but is hard to start and boat never gets to full speed

Switched power packs, no change

Switched ignition coils, no change

Found a bad rectifier, replaced it with no change

Spark plugs are new, I also double checked my ignition wires

According to this video, I should get 1.4 ohms between the two yellow wires from my STATOR

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xD7jsX86orU

I get 0 ohms

I'm believing my stator OR my timer base is bad

I don't see any loose magnets or leaking goop from the stator

since two of my cylinders are still firing, am i safe to assume my timer base is probably ok? i would like to finish this job all at once

i tested the resistance coming from the timer base to the power packs (if i remember correctly) and all 4 connections gave me good resistance readings compared to what i read was recommended

engine is a late 1970's or maybe early 1980's evinrude 115. where do i find a good stator for this old of an engine?

edit- is this a good stator? or am i losing money by getting a "one size fits all years" stator?

You cant say the timing base is good because two cylinders are firing. The timing base tells the others when to fire so if it isnt working those two starboard wouldnt.
You need to look up the test on cdielectronics.
And not sure if you mean by zero, very low resistance or open circuit?

You can look for parts on here, Iboats, marineengines.com, or boats.net. they have parts for older engines. May have to check all 3 to find your part.

If your engine has 2 packs, just switch the connector with brn.brn-wht wire between packs, if problem follows it stator....

My engine DOES have two packs, I'm
Not sure how switching the wire to the pack would eliminate the timer base as being faulty though

The timer base may be bad. See post #2. Check the cranking voltage output on the starboard timer base leads. Per the troubleshooting guide at: cdielectronics.com
You will need a special "peak reading" voltmeter for the test.

ok thanks everyone for helping organize my thoughts on this diagnosis, yup sounds like it's time for those peak voltage probes i was considering ordering

and what i meant by no reading on the two yellow wires. the meter shows 0 ohms instead of 1.4 ohms like it should for the stator charging wires

When you say "0 ohms", is that the same reading you see if the meter leads aren't touching anything? If so, that's an open circuit. Most DMMs (digital multimeters) will never show 0 ohms to indicate a dead short. You can see what your meter 'thinks' is a dead short by touching the probes together.

Did you disconnect both yellow wires when you tested it?

Because it eliminates the stator being bad on that one side..
