Hello , great site, I have a 83 235hp Evinrude , we were out and on way home it just died, i have pretty much confirmed there is no spark to all 6 clys, any ideas??????
I have noticed there is 6 coils for this motor, i dont think all six coils could blow,
wondering what feeds the coils and also any fuses????

Check the ignition system beginning at the stator.

You are right-unlikely all 6 coils failed at once. That engine has two power packs, one for each head. If both banks (heads) are dead, it is also unlikely that both power packs failed at the same time. So, I'd begin checking the remaining two ignition components (the stator and the timer base) for the correct voltage output. You will need to refer to the ignition section for troubleshooting these two components. Testing them will probably require a special peak-reading voltmeter as described in the manual.

disconnect the red harness plug, then jump power to the starter ,with plugs removed check for spark,be sure your test is not to close to the plug holes, the fuel could ignite,if you get spark, put the harness back together, disconnect the black wire with white stripe to the 2 powerpacks and recheck spark,if you get spark again ,its more than likely a bad keyswitch, you can do either test in any order ,the second may be easier as you dont need to jump the starter,if you still dont have spark it could be a problem under flywheel,in that case come back for further tests
