No spark johnson

I have a 1998 Johnson 225 ocean pro that will not start. It has no spark. mechanic looked at it and said there was corrosion on tach plug. Cleaned off and put back on and it started. Got home started it once, now it won't start and there is no spark. Mechanic swears its the Tach. Any thoughts on this?

Take it to another mech who is not an idiot!!!!! Do you have any electrical troubleshooting equipment ?? Have you got an OEM factory service manual ??
