1961 75s were either battery or magneto depending on model. electric shift was battery manual shift mag. many similar components. the rotors are different and can cause a missfire if the wrong rotor is put in the dist. good luck Bill

In a previous post, he stated it was mechanical shift. So if you are correct about mechanical shift being magneto, his coil should be in the distributor, NOT external auto type. Maybe it's been jury-rigged over the years, and maybe that is causing the high speed problems?
