Hi Guys, editing this post. Boat ran good yesterday, ran it WOT for a while to get the engine cleaned up a little... stopped to swim. 1 hour later motor will not start. Not even a pop - just cranking. I thought maybe I just flooded it.

pulled the plugs and cleaned, checked filter, choke and carb bowls

I have been looking at it tonight and it's getting fuel but doesn't appear to get spark. It's almost like a kill switch is on or something - but I don't see one. My neighbor helped me test a lot of the connections with a meter and most everything looks correct.

anything simple I could be overlooking ? fuse, breaker ?

forgot to mention - my boat is a 1985 Bayliner 1900 - force is 1985 as well.

Neutral safety switch. Won't let engine start unless in neutral. Try jiggling the shifter while trying to start. If it does start you'll have to do some adjustments to properly position the switch.

Did you mean "cranking" like the starter is engaging and turning over the engine but the engine will not fire or start? If so then maybe the lanyard switch is activated. Disconnect the white wire from the switch and try again.

Re: No Spark Force 125

FoodFisher - i took a look at the neutral safety switch and it looks a little off - so I reset it following the book. Anyhow it didn't help.

Jiggz - i mean: the starter is moving the flywheel at a decent speed - but no fire. I bought a spark tester this morning to test for spark again - last night we were just grounding the plug on the block - there is nothing that I can see from any of the 4. I'm asumming i can ground the spark tester to one of the bolts next to the spark plugs (i scraped some paint off to get metal)

I did try disconnecting the white wire from under the key switch. I also tried disconnecting the white wires from the terminal near the starter ( there are 3 - one on left and 2 on right side) Also tried the blue one.

I'm confused - but it ran perfect - just shut it off after running for 30 minutes and then this happens - i still think something is loose or grounding

Not those white wires. Do you have a lanyard switch? This is usually located by the driver's side which the drivers wear and if thrown over the side would pull this lanyard thus killing the engine? Or Do you have a stop switch that you push to stop the engine. If so, one these has a wire that connects to ground to stop the engine. usuall it is white in color. That wire is the one you need to disconnect and then try again. You can also do some reading over here for electrical troubleshooting. www.cdielectronics.com

no lanyard switch. Tested the function of the white wire through the whole boat. Getting the correct voltages and ohms from the trigger and stator. I'm suspecting the CD boxes - I can't imagine that both went bad at the same time though - unless they are tied together somehome. I took the whole ignition panel off (has the 4 coils and 2 CD's) and I could then see that one of the CD's is newer than the other.

I looked on that site - what part of the site has that troubleshooting - I must be missing it.

Re: No Spark Force 125

Here' the wiring diagram and according to this you are right there is no lanyard or kill switch although there is a stop ckt in the ignition switch. As such, go ahead and disconnect those two white wires from the terminal board as shown on your pics. Separate the two wires and make sure they are NOT grounded. Better yet tape them off with a single layer of elex tape. Try again.

If some sparks comes back it means one of the CDM is bad. If no spark came back, check the trigger and stator output. The voltage from the stator while cranking should be around 180~200VAC between the yellow and blue wires as shown on the diagram. The trigger volts is really small around0.5~1Vac. The trigger resistance should be around 48~52 ohms while the stator should be around 600~800 ohms. If both reading are good it's time to check the CDM output but you will need a DVA adapter to ready voltage output. So instead just isolate the cause by disconnecting each CDM one at a time and try starting. The CDM that will not fire at all is the faulty one.

Try jumping the neutral interlock switch. Still no go?, check yellow wire connection at the ignition switch.

Re: No Spark Force 125

OK - so I went through the engine again and I'm sure that it is the stator - no resistance at all on the yellow and blue wires. Trigger is reading fine / stop switch and neutral all reading fine. I ordered a stator and now am having second thoughts if i can do it - I got the top nut off ok - and I'm sure I need to rent a puller.

I'm not sure about the timing - will pulling the flywheel off mess this up ? Or will it stay the same ? - do I need to mark something ? I've never set timing
