Took flywheel off to clean it and components underneath it. Put it back on and now have no spark. Any suggestions why?

Re: No spark 90hp nissan

I'm a musician not a boat mechanic so I guess I'll just take it and leave it with repair shop. I don't have the right tools and testing equiptment. It's just that they are so expensive and have 3 week waiting list before they even look at it. I don't understand why it would run before I took the flywheel off but won't even fire now. It's like I pulled the emergency shut off cord. All I wanted was to make it run better.

Gerald,

Did the flywheel key make it back into place when you placed the flywheel back onto the engine?

It is not difficult nor expensive to get it running you only have to concentrate fully on what you are doing, no special tools needed only one cheap multimeter, can be bought from almost anywhere. You don´t even need the multimeter if U do as I said before, buy the coil from PurkaAamo everything else might end up expensive especially if you send it to the repair shop.

Gerald,

There isn't any reason that that you would lose spark from taking the flywheel off and putting it back on again. It could just be fate, but here's the quick list of possibilites:

Blown fuse
Kill switch lanyard
Defective kill switch
Defective ignition switch
Loose or bad wire
Bad CD
Bad trigger(pulser) coil
Bad exicter coil
Bad ignition coil

If you managed to drop the flywheel there is a 1 out of 1000 chance you could have damaged the magnetic field...I've seen it twice in 40 years. But it's more likely that you blew the fuse or CD.

You need a manual for the test procedures for the ignition system. You can pick up an aftermarket one here on iboats or a factory original from any Nissan or Tohatsu dealer.
