1980 Mercruiser 228 Chevy 305 this has been sitting a while i just bought it
i want to get it running and checked out then get an electronic kit or distributer

Cleaned the points and have some dwell 20 Deg

my current problem is that i only have 3.5 volts going to the coil?
thought it might be the shift kill switch and tried different positions on the
shift/throttle lever no change.

i am almost sure that it had 12v when i picked it up

previous owner said that he had some trouble with the coil feeling hot he replaced
the coil and tried a ballast resister which is not connected now

he also said that he had to replace the points every year

Any help will be greatly apreciated

Re: NO Spark 228 Mercruiser

open the points, then check the voltage to the coil. Set the points at about .018 in. and try checking spark again. you need new points, and will also have to check your resistor wire and wiring.
