and remember, you need to re-set the timing after you get the dwell within range. BTW, your old coil was fine.

Thanks again. May have read the dwell meter wrong. But still not in spec. I’ll have to throw that one on the shelf. Have everything to set the proper dwell. Now looking for a timing light to complete.

I have always adjusted dwell with the cap and rotor off while cranking. I normally set the gap at 0.018 as a start and target 32 degrees on the dwell meter while cranking.

I have the lock screw just a tad loos and can move the points with a screw driver (there should be a slot and two bumps to put the screwdriver in to tweak them. once set, tighten the lock screw

then put the cap on, fire it up and set timing.
