Re: No Reverse Alpha 1
Thanks for replies,

Ok, further information now.
As Don suggested I pulled the drive again and rechecked everything.
As to the hard bit in getting leg back on, it was the last little bit and I suspect it was the 'o' rings locating into the bearing and I did have trouble a couple of times getting the large 'o' ring to stay put in the housing. In the end I just used the nuts for last 1/2" to pull it all on with very little spanner pressure to do it so did not suspect any real issue other than all the new seals etc. I was on my own and it is not easy with the weight of the leg, but got there in the end

It was similar getting it off, first 1/2" or so took some convincing and then easy after that. Once again think it being the '0' rings in bearing and once they cleared it was easy.
Anyway, this is what I have found
1; The shift slide appears to not go back far enough, it hits up against the brass sleeve of the outer cable,

now I'm not sure if the slide block should or would normally slide over this sleeve? Moving the shift lever on it's own, without using the slide it will travel right back and the lever at bottom of shift shaft comes up against the housing and can not go any further, this would be heaps to allow a shift into reverse if it did that with the slide block.

2; The shift lever itself had a crack in it and when I checked further it appeared to be solid and stable on the shaft as I thought this may have created the problem with it having shifted on the shaft - not the problem..

3; Placed a bit of leverage pressure under the shift lever and you guessed it, fell apart which I was expecting once I saw the crack running across above the rolled pin that locates it on shaft

- Now I have to find one of them that could be interesting.

4; Checked gear engagement on leg and have both forward and reverse and from all of the above checks etc. Roughly speaking the shift lever on leg looking from prop side of leg at 12.00 is forward, 10.00 is reverse. 11.00 is neutral. I'm convinced that for whatever reason the shift cable is not allowing enough pull movement to engage reverse with leg on boat and as said the slide block hits up on the brass sleeve of outer cable.

Now I am open to your expertise as to what I need to do here. Now that I think on it, it was getting a little difficult at times to get reverse before the gimble issue and I thought it was probably a lubrication issue with the shift mechanism and cables etc, not so sure now.

Thanks all
