i have a 75 Crestliner Muskie 550 with a '71 mercury 800. I dont understand how a big motor like that wouldnt have PTT. Especially with the safety issue of having to go from behind the wheel to lift the motor up then run back to the wheel...
These kits are not cheap either...i should just buy a winch and hook it up to it. lol.

They were usually a dealer supplied and installed item.

It's a 37 year old motor. Not everyone needed power trim & tilt back in 71, and it was an option for Merc outboards, not a dealer installed option either.

Re: No Power Trim/tilt?!

If I mislead anyone with my last post.. I apologise...
I cannot say with one hundred percent certainty that the folks at the Merc factory shipped their engines with or without power trim units some thirty seven years ago.
I can say.... That an acquaintance of mine, whose family has had a Mercury dealership for more that fifty years, tells me, "they routinely installed PTT for their customers who ordered new motors with this option at their dealership". Perhaps they were the exception and not the rule.... Sorry for the confusion

PTT can be installed on that motor, if you can find a PTT Unit. You will need 2 PTT Brackets, 2 PTT Cylinders, a PTT Pump and four hydraulic hoses. The balance of the system was a three pushbutton control panel and a wiring harness and a trim piece.
