No power to coil

1980 mercruiser 5.7 with full pertronix electronic ignition. I have no power coming to my coil

then you have a wiring issue. purple wire is ignition. that should carry +12 volts from the ignition swich

the negative on the coil gets pulsed by the points/pertronics/monkey with a switch

you are measuring with respect to the block ground and not simply across the coil, correct?

Ayuh,..... Is there power at the key switch on the purple wire, with the key in the "On" position,....??

There is 12 volts coming in on red battery cable.
12 volts at purple wire in on position but just under 9 in start mode.
yellow striped wire has just under 9 volts in start position.
yes I am measuring from positive side of coil to a ground, not neg. side of coil

Ayuh,....... Sounds like a bad battery, or corroded connections,.....

clean at the battery terminals
clean where the battery cables connect to the motor
clean where the main system ground is, usually stbd side motor mount bolt
clean where the canon plug goes together
clean on the terminals at the ign switch.

Ayuh,..... Clean is Shiny Metal Clean,....... A brand new battery off the shelf needs cleanin, at installation,.....

'n BD tells ya the other places that need to be Shiny Metal Clean,....

Basically your battery posts, cables, etc need to be clean enough you wife would eat off them
