No power from ignition switch

All of a sudden I’ve got nothing when I turn the key! Not even a starter solenoid click, but can hear the primer solenoid click when ignition is pushed in! Checked fuses and all is well there! I do have plenty of voltage going to the solenoid, but can’t jumper it and get any results! Starter motor will engage when connecting cables directly from the battery(which is good)! Checked and cleaned all connections. Still nothing! Took apart the controller to access the switch! Checked neutral safety switch and kill switch! Also did continuity tests on all wires from the switch to the red plug! All good! Then ran a jumper from the yellow/red wire at the switch to where it connects to the solenoid! Now I can jumper the solenoid and the ‘82 150 comes to life! I’ve ordered a new ignition switch, thinking that’s the problem but would like this form’s excellent opinions! So very sorry for the length of this post! Thanks!

With plenty of voltage going to solenoid but it doesn't engage, and can't jumper it then I would think the solenoid

why a new switch first check that the S post has12v when the key is at START... since Primer works the B+ is reaching the switch..

that S post B+ must reach the solenoid... control post does it ???

if you "ran a jumper from the yellow/red wire at the switch to where it connects to the solenoid! Now I can jumper the solenoid and the ‘82 150 comes to life! "

are you saying a new strech of wire from the S post to the solenoid control post got the starter going ???

if yes then the control wire from the S post to the solenoid is open or safety interrupted between the S post and solenoid

see fused YELLOW leaving the switch as a Yellow Red via the neutral switch before reaching the solenoid . make certain male-female joint is clean on yello-red in the plug

Sorry ----I did not read all the posts on this one.----Should be simple to figure out why this motor will not crank.----Perhaps a bad ground from solenoid small terminal.

Gentlemen, i made a mistake in my wire color identification! Perhaps this can shed new light! First of all, I have bench tested the solenoid on several occasions and it always gives me a click and solid buzz for continuity, so I’m thinking it’s ok! Now the mistake; I actually ran the jumper from the purple/white at the switch (primer solenoid wire) to the yellow/red at the solenoid! I’m thinking what that did was supply 12v from that to the solenoid when the key was in the on position, allowing me to jump the solenoid! The key could then turn the engine off, but then, couldn’t start it without jumping the solenoid again! Hence, my thinking a bad key switch! Possible? Again, I apologize for crossed wires!

does your key put out 12v (Yellow red ) on the S post when turned to START yes -no....?

if yes key is good S post will have 12v as measured to ground

if no key is bad... key S post will have NO 12v as meaured to ground replace key

if key is confirmed GOOD .... the12v must reach the solenoid control post so just follow the wire. Did you inspect the connector male-female joint ?

yes - no ???

if no power reaches the solenoid whith key to START wire is open or safety switch is stuck open.

easy to track down with a voltmmer or a simple 12volt bulb.

think of the solenoid a ceiling bulb....that does not work !

check power to switch check power leaving the switch check power reaching the light bulb if the bulb does not work then it is burnt or loose.

Problem solved! Bad ground on solenoid, I’m embarrassed to say! I had it on and off 3 times, but evidently I didn’t learn! Thanks so much for trying to help !
