no power 5.0 please help

i got my boat out for the first time this year and when i put it in reverse it dies and in full throttle going forward it would max out at 3500 rpm 20 mph and then after 3-5 min it would go up to 5500-6000 rpm and max speed so can anyone please help steve by the way it is a 1994 crownline 5.0

I would get a shop tach and check your rpms they seem to be off 5500-6000 is way too high. Should be 4800 as max rpm. Either you are way under propped or your tach is off. Oh something else. Maybe the prop is spun causing the over rpms. Your rpm and speed just arent matching up. As far as the first proplem you had we need somemore info manufacturer of engine would help
