Ok guys, here is the boat I have received from my grandparents passing away. It is all original except the impeller pump in the lower unit. It was locked solid from sitting so long. My grandparents bought it new in 74 and last took it out in 85. Garage kept all but 1 year. Here is the link to the pics, click once for larger image and a second time for full screen. You can still see the shine in full screen. All I have done is the impeller pump, new gas/oil mix and wash it, no wax. LMK what ya think http://s263.photobucket.com/albums/ii137/rowley5383/1974 DUO Ranger all original/

Duo made a really nice boat. Buy 1974, they were part of the same group as Starcraft boats. I had a 1971 Gypsy trihull which had a double hull, the hull itself held the flotation in sort of a sandwich design, the hull was thick, with an inner and outer layer, with foam in between. The below deck construction was pretty stout too, far more wood in there than any other boat I've seen. Great riding hull too, at least as far as a trihull goes. It handled like it was on rails and was easy on gas.

That's got to be the cleanest Duo I've seen yet!

That's a good looking boat, but I'd be weary about the transom not having some sort of water penetration over the last 36 years! It may appear great but I haven't seen, nor have I heard of, a boat without a wet transom.......

Rot has to be present in some form.

simply not possible so keep thinking what you want to think! You can take a 2 year old boat and prove it has a wet transom. If there is ANYTHING bolted to it or through it you will have water entry. Time takes it's toll.........

thats a bad assumption....that boat might be in such good shape because it wasnt anywhere near the water very often if at all.

that would be the ONLY reason it would be "perfect" after so many years......

Well considering it last went out in 85, it only had 11 years of "use."

so you're going to tell me that after 11 years of use it never got any water into the transom? Then after sitting 25 years that transom, IF it didn't get any water into it, is perfect? Because IF it did get water into it during the first 11 years then after sitting for 25 more it WILL have some form of rot in the wood!

Think about it.......

besides, this is the Boat Restoration and Building forum! if it doesn't need to be restored then post in another forum!

no hate......I simply stated that I would be weary about it because of the age and everyone seems to think they know more about how transom rot get's into the transom in the first place. I simply stated a fact that it's probably present. It may not be as bad as some, but it's there! It's like telling me that a 36 year old house doesn't need siding........etc, etc, etc
