no model/ serial numbers how to identify ?

I just purchased my first boat, 62 starcraft/and 60 horsepower ? evinrude. Came from police auction but no serial/ model numbers on transom bracket or core plug. any way to identify year/ model? thanx in advance

62...check on top of the block for a silver plug(similar to a freeze plug)..there should be a serial # stamped in plug :cool:

cleaned all the paint from the (core) plug,no number. parts guy at marina thinks maybe early 80's from seeing the head gasket (replaced after reading this forum),would pictures help?

If it is a 3 cylinder 60 with the plug wires coming out from under the flywheel, it is a 70 or 71.

For those that might have wondered, Star sent me some pictures, a two (2) cylinder Evinrude with the terminal type powerpack, combined with a electric choke setup that also incorporated a manual choke lever at the top starboard portion of the carburetor face plate.<br /><br />The only engine manufactured by OMC with that combination was the 1976 55hp Evinrude/Johnson model.
