I have a 1994 Mercury Black Max V-150, (I have old-style fuel pump). I had rebuilt the carbs entirely and upon re-assemble I went to run the motor, but noticed the fuel was draining from the filter as it ran. I disconnected the line and cranked to see any pressure, but nothing came out, so I assumed the pump kit was needed (on order).. I did dissemble the fuel pump and I did not see any visible tears in the diaphram, or anything obvious, perhaps just tired? The small inlet/outlet valve gaskets inside looked great as well. I got to thinking that maybe I plumbed the fuel lines incorrectly, but checked the Seloc manual and it looked like all was good, and the length of the lines and location seemed to be obvious to me.
Does the enricher add to the pressure issue or does the pump solely rely on the crankcase pressure? The manual did show the enricher lines coming from the bottom and mine appears to be upside down with the button on the bottom-lines from the top. Not sure if that contributes to the issue, but that's how it always was.. I'm not 100% on the function of that.

The enrichener is a solenoid valve that drains fuel under gravity feed, from the top carb to the lower carbs, directly into the crankcase. This provide choking action.

When you say "draining from the filter as it ran", do you mean the inline fuel filter, or something else?

Yes. I'd pump the bulb on the fuel tank and as it ran I could see the fuel depleting. I then disconnected the fuel line to that in-line filter (directly after the pump) and cranked it over and fuel was trickling out and then quit all together. I got to thinking, perhaps, I linked the fuel lines incorrectly, which led to that 'enricher'/solenoid..

anytime you disassemble anything/part fuel related it needs NEW gaskets no mater what they look (still good or bad) they need ta be replaced with new... tha enrichner has no bearing on pressure.. yours is mounted right.. lines on top.........

manual sent... let me know if you get it.

I did, I really appreciate that. This helps greatly. I just got the gasket kit delivered today. I'm going to install the stator, rectifier, and fuel pump kit..

Update: Installed the new pump gasket kit and ran great. The enricher worked correctly as the spec has it 'clicking' if it operates correctly. Thanks Chris1956 & Bluedog for your direction..
