Alright folks,
first post. This place has a wealth of knowledge. Just bought a boat with a slightly used engine. It was blowing oil filter seals... no big deal. Pulled the engine, repaired the pump, validated all was working correctly, yada yada yada....tested the OE fuel pump - it was no good. Bought an auxiliary Holley fuel pump (4-7psi)... installed it, pumped great, i think... injectors were terrible. Tried cleaning those with no luck, ran 1.5 hrs away to get injectors for a "1992 chevy 4.3" (year and model of "vehicle was irrelevant. I think??) Installed new injectors and they sprayed wonderfully...i guess?
a couple questions..
what psi auxiliary fuel pump should i run?
is there a difference in injectors between marine and automotive?
injector part number is a BWD # 57202P came from O'Reilly's. Is this the same as a marine injector for this engine? Why or why not?
The engine cranked and started but i had to continuously hammer throttle and back off, hammer throttle and back off...it was obviously just reving, wanting to die, rev up so on..... any thoughts? I DID leave OE fuel pump in there in case that has anything to do with volume/rate restrictions
engine S/N is OL347511
i have spent hours upon hours going through this thing to get my mother on the water and unfortunately, i was not able to succeed.

please help!!!! Thanks in advance!

If you're talking about TBI injectors for a truck, they run at around 13psi. So the big question I'd have is, what fuel pressure is proper for your boat?

Thanks for the quick response! Im uncertain if they're TBI... its BWD - for whatever that's worth? I too was wondering about the proper fuel pressure. I thought i saw 5-8 somewhere on here and only could find a 4-7 psi then a 12+ which i thought was too much?

also. Is there a way i can reference my posts quickly versus trying to search through everything again? Thanks again for quick reply!

TBI=Throttle Body Injection, normally a term used when describing GM's early-ish fuel injection in the 80s and into the early to mid 90s. Mercruiser would call it EFI, and looking up the parts for your serial number show me the injectors I was thinking. I am unable to verify if they're the same between a 4.3 auto and 4.3 marine but your fuel pump pressure rating raised my eyebrows as I know GM's system runs somewhere along the lines of 12-15psi, usually about 13psi.

Some people will tell you that these injectors are prone to going bad but I've only ever come across one bad one. Mind you, my experience with them is more in cars and trucks that get USED a lot more than boats and don't sit as much. Sitting will kill about any fuel component.

I'd put your system back to stock and check the fuel pressure.

I'll definitely check out the pump deal and see if i can get more psi from an auxiliary pump before i purchase an OE pump. The OE pump number was an SAE # J1711 (i think) which i cannot find any specifications for 😔 and the TBI injector kit costs $1100 on a quicksilver package. I can't imagine And don't understand why it would cost so much more for marine vs auto....which is also very frustrating.
would ANYONE have part numbers i can reference and cross for the fuel system? What has and hasn't worled for others???

i guess BOAT = Bet On Another Thousand jeesh...

SAE J1711 means it is marine compliant and spark safe so it wont blow you up.

it costs that much because the EFI systems on boats share vary little with EFI systems on cars.

Airtex E 11004 fits the cool fuel unit plus I didnt see a boost pump using that serial number

Scott danforth, are the injectors also different from marine to auto? Surely not, right?!

thanks BT Doctor... so just because it fits the fuel unit (i assume you mean the pocket where it resides) that doesn't verify specs of pump versus "marine" right? If it is the same thatd be great because the number you gave me is available at a local walmart! And im not certain ehat a boost pump is... S/N OL347511

Ope, nevermind BT Doctur. I know what you mean by fitting. You're talking the pressed o-ringed fitting into the mating part of cooler... have you heard success with using the part number you referenced?

replaced 6 motors with failed cool fuel pumps using the airtex one, no customer complaints
