Schools are announcing closures. plow trucks are warming up and the brine trucks are brimming. Watch no flakes of the non-political type!

On the local news I saw all the prep. The brine trucks had infrared heaters lined up along the side. If you have to warm the brine, how well is it going to work once it hits subfreezing pavement?

Peanuts! Now that's forward thinking JB. :thumb:

You have plow trucks? I thought maybe jet driers. Break out the leaf blowers........ :)

Here's your plow truck: https://www.facebook.com/ConstructionMachines.CM/videos/401568860013930/

Have about 3 inches this AM and now shifted over to slight rain, looks like the song watching the news "slip sliding away"

Sure glad I don't need to go anywhere

They just showed Nashville and Knoxville on the Weather Channel. Hope it stays up there. Freezing rain and sleet are worse, Joe.

The WC is also saying this could be the worst storm in 5 years for the Northeast. Huh? Was Boston a dream last year?

It's tail is wagging.

What snow? I have more ice than that on my driveway. The snow has melted but the ice on the my driveway remains. That's what I get for trying to use my backhoe for a snow plow earlier. I left a snow layer to prevent from removing the driveway gravel.

Is it because of attorneys or chicken adults that they now close or delay schools from a little storm? It sure was a lot different when I was young. If the school bus could get through after the driver chained it up then we had school and on time. We didn't have a phone or radio so there was no way to let us know without plenty of prior planning.

I don't want to go back to those days however. I like my (creature?) comforts.

The county schools here get out at the first sign of snow. Mostly due to all the hollor roads around here that never get plowed. Not to mention some of the county schools are literally in the mountains which gets snowfall amounts that are almost always more than predicted. The city schools, like the one my stepson attends almost never take snow days. Sometimes they get out for single digit temps, but rarely for snow. I think allot of the businesses and schools closed today are closed because of an overabundance of caution given that it's been in the teens and single digits here for a few days. The weather forecasters predicted that the snow we do get will be sticking to everything given how cold the ground and roads are. So far we've gotten about a half an inch since 8 this morning. The real snow is supposed to hit around 12 so we'll see how well our weather men got it this time.

So they called off city schools last night which my stepson and his buddy who stayed over last night were thrilled about. The last thing I asked them before I turned in last night was " Do you all think you will get called in to work tomorrow? " To which they both responded " No there wont be any body call in. It;s not gonna snow that much. " I just smiled and said okay..... Now we live about 4 blocks away from the Ingles grocery store my stepson and his buddy work at, and I told my wife last night " Watch them be the first ones called in if they do need help, because we live so close, and their boss new they were staying at our house last night.

Sure enough as I was making coffee this morning I heard my stepsons phone ring, and heard a very groggy :" Yeah we can come on in today I guess." I was standing in our nice warm kitchen drinking my morning cup of coffee as I watched them pull out of the driveway.:D

You have plow trucks?
Funny you say that ... I think the last count that I heard is that we have about 250 plows in the state of TN. Which is roughly what I think the county had when I lived up in Lenawee County, MI :D I was also told - not 100% sure it's true - that our biggest expense in a year where we have to use the plows a lot is replacing the PVC reflectors along the highways, because the plow drivers have trouble not shearing 'em off.

Rain early this morning ... slushy ice for the drive in ... ice when I got to the office ... now there's a 1/4" of snow on the ground ... :twitch:

Too cold here and the kids are on a 2hr delay for the 2nd day.

Yes, city has been sending out weather updates since this storm started to build and head this way...

Predicting ugly anowfall Fri thru Sun, measured in feet...

The narrow hollows and steep hillsides make it tricky for normal drivers that should be used to it, but arent. Buses are even worse, even w chains.

If the snow comes too heavy too wet, the trees and powerlines give up and make a bad situation worse.

Does the newly fenced BWR compound have room for northen refugee tents? Comes w perimeter patrols to offset tent site fees :becky:

Neighbor couldn't get up an incline yesterday (Front wheel drive), so I got the backhoe and did some plowing to give her some traction. She got out and when going back to the barn I started slipping on the stuff. Needless to say I had some pucker factor going on until managing to get it back on level ground. 4WD and locking differential was a good thing to have yesterday

We ended up with about 4 inches here in town yesterday. Lots of people home from school and work today. I have a few no heat calls to attend to so hopefully some of the side roads got scraped. Should be interesting. Tomorrow evening into Saturday could go one of two ways. Rain changing to snow late with some accumulation Saturday, or rain in the morning changing to snow early with heavy accumulation. Either way it's gonna be a mess this weekend.

Hope everybody stays safe. I gotta go fix some furnaces and heat pumps.:encouragement:

Wow. You guys got a lot more than we did! At least all your roads are straight and level though

We'll see what hits on Friday. We're supposed to "get it" here too.

We got 3.5 yesterday, and last night (sometime was sleeping) the county got to our road. Bowling Green is expecting freezing rain, sleet, snow and possibly ice, sure hope we don't get the ice. Says all of KY and the ice along the Cumberland pkwy.

Talked about getting chains last month, kind of wish I would have gone and got them now, just in case

Until the next forecast emergency event, possibly leading into the weekend, my only immediate problem is getting rid of all the empties.

Really nothing happened right around me, but up the road in the higher mountains toward Tn and NC, it was worse. Nothing like they're still calling for in Va and WV, but bad enough in this neck of the woods when it's still a fairly rare occurrence.

2 feet of snow with 20+ MPH winds and coastal flooding - That's an emergency! Please, please, please be careful. Stay home if you can and don't over do the snow shoveling.

With all the wind, there will be drifting. Use it to your advantage. :D

Weather forecasts are nuts around here ... they have no idea what is going to happen this weekend. There have been models predicting anywhere from 4 inches to 2 feet locally. Guess we will wait and see and hope the storm continues to move north and west so we get slammed with the epicenter! Would like a good 3 feet of snow ... have plow will travel!
