I am trying to find a device that will place my tilt/trim position on my NMEA network. I was wondering has anyone found such a device that will plug into NMEA/Mercury to read tilt/trim angle? I have been looking at Yacht Devices Rudder adapter for their trim tabs this device seems to covert ohm or volt to angle position for trim tabs. I also found this device but according to the one review it does not covert signals to NMEA. I also found this Garmin device if anyone knows about this Garmin and if it works let me know.

My engine gateway for some reason is not reading my trim position on the motor. I removed the analog trim sender and installed the digital trim going to the ECU. I have a Mercury 03 150 sw. My last result will to be just to install the Smart Craft SC1000 gauge. My purpose just trying to find my engine/tilt sweet spot when cruising down the bay. I have fuel flow but I would like to know the exact angle my trim is in when I plan on taking a long cruise I can just lock in it. Thanks.

The Garmin device is a simple A/D with a built in gateway.

I put little value in reviews on Amazon. As far as you know the comment was posted by the competitor.

I don’t put much faith in trim senders. Honestly don’t know if mine even works.

I don’t use trim much at all.
I trim until the top of the engine cover is level and go.

Once on plane I trim to eliminate prop torque and call it good. Use tabs to adjust side to side, running angle,etc.

As far as the Garmin displaying NMEA sensors,

I've picked up a Lowrance pressure sensor that is a NMEA device and added to my engine, I then power it and because the Garmin was programmed to read it's sentence protocol, I was able to view/display it's data using my Garmin's NMEA screen interface.........

So yes, as long a your Garmin recognizes and is programmed to read the specific sensor's (or GET 10 A/D converter) sentence, then typically and by default, it should have the appropriate app built in to display (see below) said sensor (angle,pressure, temp, speed, etc etc)..You'll have to go back to an analog tilt sensor though and if your Garmin is compatible to display the Garmin GET 10 engine tilt converter,, you're golden

I am using a Simrad IS35 MFD it reads trim data as its a default setting on one of the custom pages that are preloaded. Trim is to the left of the RPM meter in the image below.

@dingbat
I trim until the top of the engine cover is level and go.
That's called eyeballing it, nothing wrong with that. I suppose finding the sweet cruising spot will vary based on sea conditions anyway.

it varies by rpm so sea state will dictates trim to a point.

Motor cover “level” is my starting place to get out of the hole. Once on plane it’s all feel. Trim up until prop torque goes neutral and your there.
