Nissan 2002/2003 70hp TLDI has been stored 3 years - what should I do for sure before startup?

Hello all,
I just upgraded my setup by purchasing a used 70 hp 2002/2003 Nissan NSD70A2.
Says on tag it was manufactured March 2002 but apparently they only made this model number in 2003?? Not sure there… doesn’t make much of a difference, but I would like some advice:

This engine has been stored for 3 years. I have only owned older Johnson/Evinride engines and this is a different breed, so I would like to know all the steps you guys think I should take to properly prepare the outboard for startup. I want to make sure I cover all the necessary steps to ensure filters/hoses/electrical/lubrication is correct before I start it up for the first time in 3 years (from what I was told).

I want to change the impeller/associated water pump parts, any necessary filters, plugs, wires, lower unit oil, motor injection oil, etc… anything else?

Thanks so much in advance!

I have plenty more questions we can get to after you read all I have bombarded you with already!

Replace water pump impeller.----Make sure carburetors are clean.-----Mix gas and oil at 50:1 for first tank.-----Verify that oil injection system is working properly.

This one is TLDI so no carbs but I decided to go ahead and change all oil and fuel lines and vacuum lines…And boy let me tell you, there are a lot! Haha

It has 2 different fuel filters I am changing both and one oil filter. Also the fuel pump I am going to replace, and lower unit oil looks nice and clean with zero water in it, replacing all of that oil as well.

Impeller is arriving tomorrow. Many of the Mercury or Evinrude impeller kits come with the new plates and housing and o-rings, etc.. I noticed that Tohatsu/Nissan maintenance seems to be just the impeller? Is that true?

Also, you are recommending I still use the premix gas in addition to the oil injection on startup? How long should I run that fuel before I switch to the straight gasoline?

What are the steps to test making sure the injection system is working?

Thanks!

Sorry-----No need to mix gas and oil on that motor.----But make sure oil injection is working properly.-----Perhaps pay the local boat shop to verify that this motor is ready for service.

Not bad to "break in" with some oil premixed. Always do the complete wp kit, not just the impeller.

If motor sat for 3 years, remove all spark plugs, trim motor fully up, squirt some fuel oil at 50:1 ratio on each cylinder and manually crank the flywheel back and forth severeal times in a row as to pre lubricate pistons and rings, once done rotate the flywheel CW several times. Install new spark plugs. Motor will be good to go for first startup after piston and rings sat unlubed for such a long time...
