Went to order some new spark plugs for my 1997 Mercury 75ELPTO and found the recommended NGK BUZHW-2 plugs that I currently run have been discontinued. Anybody have a good substitute resistor plug to recommend?

Thanks!

Thanks for the replies. I'm just now getting back to looking into this. Looks like the NGK non-resistor version BUHW-2 is still readily available so I'll give those a shot.

Edit, looks like they've been discontinued as well, but I've got a line on a set.

NGK are good plugs with a long life. After 14 yrs and 800hrs of use, the Plugs that came in my 1984 115 Merc, were still in it when I traded it in 1998, on a 150 FICHT. In the 4 yrs I had that one, it must have went thru 42 plugs, all Champions

Champion spark plugs lost theirvquality control years back, when they started making them in foreign countries. In the past 20 plus years, I have had best sucess with NGK and second has been A/C Delco. Today all my toys use NGK with great sucess.

I'm only replacing my current NGK's because it's yearly maintenance time on my new to me (used) boat and I thought it was common practice to change them every year. They still look and work great so maybe I'll just keep running them and keep the new set in the boat toolbox. I've read some conjecture on non resistor plugs running a but hotter and cleaner on and old 2-stroke like mine. Any thoughts?

Never cared for resistor plugs, try not to use them. I always carry a new set of plugs just in case. I dont replace them each tear unless I have an issue or they start to look bad !!

I had the last year of the 115 "tower" manufacturing. Folks on here said that was 1988 but my engine's title said 1989. Regardless, I bought the rig new in 1989 and kept it 7 years. Did nothing to that engine but add gas and oil. It loved 6k RPM on my Ranger. At WOT, on the pad, I could hear it singing and the prop humming, beating the surface of the water. I loved it but wanted more boat for open water.
