well vick did his job. have to lay the blame on the kicker and play calling. but when you have a newcomer (to this offense at least) QB and a kicker that can't hit the broadside of a barn it limits your play calling. ravens got a gift tonight

I think the gifts went both ways. Fumble to start off the second half was a 7 point gift.

The next day and I am still shaking my head with Scobee. I had high hopes for him when they signed him. He WAS a good kicker. Don't know what has happened to him, but he is terrible. He hurt the Steelers when they played the Patriots, and again last night. When the offense has to make poor coaching decisions because they have no choice, they have no faith in the kicker, something is drastically wrong. Time to let him go and bring in a new guy ... like I said earlier, my vote is for Sam Ficken. He started his Penn State career in the dog house, missing easy ones and kind of looking like Scobee has this year. 4 years later he was Mr. Automatic and making pressure kicks when they were needed. Decent leg and good accuracy (and available ... he even tweeted that he was waiting by the phone for a Steeler's call after the Patriot game! ;):D

Did he do kickoffs at Penn State? That is why Forbath was cut from Washington. he had the highest FG percentage in Washington's history but couldn't kick it out of the endzone on kickoffs reliably so they released him this year.

Scobee is making over 3 million/year. That is a lot for a kicker.

Yes, he did kick-offs, most were in the endzone, and FG/extra point duties. It baffles me that he wasn't picked up by anyone. He was hated around PSU his first half season, but by the end of the first year he won a few games and his kicking improved dramatically. By the end of his college career he was loved as much as the Bahr brothers.

When I went to bed I thought for sure I was starting out the week with a loss. Surprised the Ravens won. That's ok GA, she deserves it!

Considering, Vick looked pretty good......

Did you see Tucker's comments at the end of the game?

"I saw their fans leaving as we lined up the kick"

It was a 52 yard FG so definitely no chip shot!

Roy Gerela in a walker would be better than Scobee.

Yeah Musky, but like aspeck, no walleye to go with the eggs. She had to settle for sausage and toast. :love_heart:

You can take the man out of the Jaguars, but you can't take the Jaguars out of the man.

wow...roy gerela. that goes back a ways. but the steelers need to start scoring touchdowns. too often they have to rely on the kicker. this has been a problem for years. still no excuse for missing the FGs but if they could score more in the red zone they might not be in this predicament. they have gotten better the last couple of years but if they are inside the 5 they usually end up with a FG. oh well

The Steelers are trying out kickers, and CSNMidAtlantic.com reports that former Washington kicker Kia Forbath will try out in Pittsburgh. Forbath is the only kicker who has been identified by name as a candidate for the Steelers job, but they?ll surely be considering others.

One of the sites I look at said Scobee said he was moving past last night and a writer said he should just keep moving out the door since kickers are trying out.

The best I saw was Landon Donovan volunteered to kick for the Steelers. LOL

So what does this mean ? He's not the only kicker thats ever blown a few kicks that may have cost a game .. Ya have good days and bad days .. And so far Scobee's good day's have FAR outweighed the bad ones . I'll bet you could count the bad one's on one hand ....

Sphelps, Scobees tenure in Pittsburgh is not indicative of his entire body of work, but his entire body of Pittsburgh work is dismal. When he came to the Burg he had my support. I gave him a mulligan after New England. Not after Baltimore ... They are too hated to forgive the lapse in performance.

EDIT: I do understand that the shape of Heinz field makes kicking difficult with the swirling wind, etc. He kicked better away than at home ... but still not good enough to keep around.
