Newbie to a I/O Help with a few things!

I need some help with my new toy. Glastron SX 185 Ski/Fish it has a Volvo SX 3.0 in it. It's a 2001 and I bought it used in Feb. and haven't put it in the water as of yet.
I want to change the oil, fuel filters, stern drive lube etc. so I have a starting point for the maintenance on this baby.
My question is with oil I need. The manual says that I should use 30 weight fully synthetic oil. Is that correct? I don't even see it listed on the Volvo website. They have 10W-40 listed.

I could also use some help with a good online store for parts. Looks like I'm going to need an oil extractor for her.

Oil extractor I just got from Amazon for about $40 is great. Look at the reviews for them all. Some are cheap and not worth the money. Some are expensive, and the same worth. ibots is OK, basicpower is another good one for parts. Basically it helps to get part #'s and search that way comparing prices as you go. Good luck!

Wow! Thanks Don, looks like this subject has been worked over a few times.

It would seem that perhaps the manufactures have either changed what they recommend over time? I didn't read all of the posts, but it looked to me as though a few had the same engine but perhaps manufactured a few years apart? Not really sure, but your advice is the one that rings most in my ears.

Don't forget the stern drive lube pump to fill your lower unit. A oil filter wrench is a good idea as well. VP calls for 30W synthetic pretty much across the board when operating at temperatures above freezing. I run regular 30W and pretty much everyone out there will tell you something different. If you are going to run it hard (a 3.0 in an 18ft'r probably will), I'd run synthetic to be on the safe side, the extra $20-30 for your oil is more than made up for you doing your own maintenance. Oh, and don't forget a grease gun filled with marine grease for your gimbal bearing zerk on the transom housing.

Yes I was planning on going with the Synthetic 30 like the manual says, but I haven't found it as of yet. Can you get it online? Iboats doesn't have any that I've found. I've never bought oil over the internet before. Wasn't sure if it could be shipped.
I did have the lower unit lube pump from my last boat, so I'm good to go there. I hadn't thought of a oil filter wrench. I have a grease gun for my trailer bearings. Any idea if regular bearing grease will work for the gimbal bearing?
