Just bought this boat as a project.I have no title but the guy I bought it from says it's a 1970 Winner 16.5 ft. I can't find it anywhere on the net so if anyone has any clue as to the actual year and name I would appreciate it.
So far I have pulled the transom and flooring ,all were rotted and the stringers are gone too. I have been reading a lot of the post here and find doing this restoration fun and some what easy with all the great info given.

I know your having fun, but I would stop right there untill you can get a title for it otherwise all your hard work may be wasted. Other than that have a blast:)

I just got a boat with no title as well. I called the Illinois DNR and they gave my all the steps I have to go through to get it in my name legally. It's actually a pretty easy process (in Illinois) you should look into that soon. All I have to do is get the guy to sign a watercraft POA (basically takes the place of the lost title). Once that is done we send it to the DNR and I apply for the title just like I bought it with a title. $52 and im titled and registered for a year!

In Nebraska any boat '72 and older doesnt require a title. Just fill out a watercraft registration. Good luck on your project!

Welcome to iboats Dry Dock.....

I too would check into the title before proceeding. I know in North Carolina it's not big deal, very similar to Illinois, as fatcatman said. But at the very least you should give your local agency a call and let the know what you have and see what is required your area. May save a lot of headaches in the future.

There have been some bad stories here about registration in some areas, being a real pain without all the proper paperwork.

Good luck with you restore.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Virginia kinda makes it hard since we have to post an ad, send certified letters and such before they will issue a title. I just bought another boat for the motor an 86 bayliner capri with a force 70hp been sitting for a few years {6} so I know I will have some work ahead of me for that one,Have Titles for boat and trailer for this one.

I dont know why the Department of Natural Resources would have anything to do with registering a boat or Trailer.

Wouldnt you take that up with the Secretary of State in you Local ?

If its not a clean ticket to get it in your name..then dont put one more dime or effort into this..

Wrong forum mebbe ?

YD.

In North and South Carolina it's the DNR that register boats. I have canceled checks to prove, LOL.
