What IF the 5 yr. old grandson gets hurt because the boat wasn't built properly? How do you think Grandpa is going to feel, how do you think Grandpa is going to feel toward you since he took your advice? Storms pop up out of nowhere and small electric motor only lakes can get as rough as the big ones, plus you can't get off the water fast enough because you just have a little electric motor.

What IF there aren't any stringers like in this boat:

Just lay some boiled linseed oil soaked plywood on top of the wet foam and forget about it? Or maybe dig the wet foam out and lay the oil soaked plywood in the boat without foam because it's just going to be used on small lakes?

Your Band-Aid fix suggestions could give new members the wrong impression on how to repair their boat safely for the safety of themselves and anyone else onboard... and I remember a time when this forum including you would not condone such a suggestion. The boat should be fixed at least as well as it was manufactured for the safety of the operator and his occupants.

To the PO, I apologize for all the NOISE! Obviously you know what you have and what you want to try and do. I have given you my opinion based on your your descriptions and the pics you have posted. I will be glad to continue to advise you as best I can based on your continued postings. As I always say, It is your boat and you are free to do with it as you see fit. No one person on this forum has the definitive RIGHT way of doing things. I will agree that If in doubt you should always try to err on Safety's side. Like I stated before If the stringers don't have some fairly substantial structure to them then they should be replace along with a new deck. They ARE the back bone of the hull along with the fiberglass that encases them. Posting pics of whats below the deck once its been removed will give us a much better idea of how to further advise you.

You both have made your valid points for the OP of this topic to make a rational decision about his boat once he gets it opened up and gets to working on the inside.

Jig, we get that your 110% by the safety of the book and there is nothing wrong with that in todays world especially if your going to sign the document saying you did the work and it's in better shape now then it ever was new. But you've also got to keep an open mind that there are other ways of doing certain things that might just work for someone else as an temporary get by method that has no serious plans of going full restoration.

Aside from the professional advice normally given here, the forum is also here to help provide someone with many different ways of looking at or doing different things that may have worked in the past for someone else. The members that have different outside of the box ideas needs to be able to express their ways or views of sharing something without fear of major negative feedback that leads to continuous disagreements that have been led over from other topics.

Guys, you both are very well versed in this area of expertise and are a great asset to have on this forum and it is greatly appreciated by the hosts of iboats that you are here to help others, but please know that the continuous major bickering cannot be permitted to continue here on iboats.

Please try to get along with each other better.

To the PO, I apologize for all the NOISE!
On behalf of the hosts of iboats, we would also like to apologize to you about the behavior laid out before you. Good luck to you with your project, and please keep us updated of how it's going.:)

Thank you all! iboats Moderation team
