Re: Newbie battery advice

At first glance, it seems like it although some reviews weren't too good.

The grp 31 agm's are currently $265.99 down from $279.99 but if you enter the promo code "auto30" at checkout you get an additional $30 off so long as your total battery purchase is over $300.

I think they were a little lower last week and they also had the $30 off for over $300.

I have seen 25% off sales in the past.

I'm glad to hear you say that. I have the page bookmarked and when I looked at it I thought it was higher but wasn't sure. 25% would be nice but I'll be needing them in the next month or so and the current sale ends on the 17th.

I know they had 25% off last August based on google searches. Not sure what they have had since then.

Re: Newbie battery advice

Since you?re talking about AGM batteries and chargers, and knowing Diehard Platinum Marine batteries are made by Odyssey, I thought I?d share this link to a interesting document from Odyssey if you are not familiar with it. The document linked shows a list of ?approved? portable chargers and on-board marine environment chargers:

http://www.odysseybattery.com/documents/ODYSSEYapproved12VchargersJanuary2013.pdf

I am a big AGM convert from the deep cycle lead-acid batteries. I have used the Sears version of the battery and currently have three of the Odyssey versions on my new boat; both versions have given great service.

The document helped/influenced/confirmed my buying decision in an on-board charger for my new boat. I bought a Dual Pro Professional Series 3 Bank charger from Pro Charging Systems. They were on my list due to past experience of one of their chargers on my previous boat, but was glad to see it was on the ?approved? list. I also know that Pro Charging Systems have a very close relationship with Odyssey (I would imagine most/all on the list do) to keep up to date and ahead of the battery technology curve. I also installed their ?Charge on the Run? Series that allows the alternator to send a charge to the lowest charged battery after the starting battery is charged first (the other two batteries power my 24 volt trolling motor). I have not had to ?land line? the battery charger as much.

Just throwing it out there.

Thank you cjjjdeck for that list of approved chargers. That will greatly help me narrow down the list! :D

Re: Newbie battery advice

The list of recommended chargers addresses the charge profile only, not the minimum charge current requirement. On the chargers that don't meet the minimum charge current, they expect you to double or triple up on the banks to meet the requirement.
