1) when I have my stringers all glassed in should I add wax to my last coat of poly so it cures properly? 2) do I have to sand thought all the gel coat where I'm tabbing the floor to the deck? 3) I watched a few videos completely removing the deck cap and cutting and removing the back portion of the deck and re-glassing it back in.. Either way it looks like a lot of work... Any suggestions or thoughts?

Any chance you can post a picture or two of your project? Not sure what you mean "tabbing the floor to the deck"? The 'floor' IS the deck. Are you tabbing the deck to the side of the hull? Is the gel-coat on the inside of the hull?

You can add wax or not. Its only the last couple of thousanths that will be inhibited by air, all the rest of it will cure just fine. No big deal. Your new material will "stick" to sanded gelcoat OK, but do you want an completely unsupported layer of colored resin between your laminates? I usually sand most of it off but if there is a little gelcoat left in the low spots I don't worry about it. There will be a little unsupported resin left in the low spots to. You have a secondary bond at best between the old and the new anyway.

Best way to post pics to iBoats is to open a FREE Photobucket account photbucket.com
and then use the IMG Code to copy and paste your pics into your iBoats posts. to do this Hover over your pic, click the flower in the right corner, click get links then click the IMG Code at the bottom of the window. Return to iBoats and Paste it in

Re: Newbee here again with a couple questions

Here are a couple of pics as to what I have gotten myself into lol

Hey looks like it worked!.. Thinking it would just be easier to remove the whole cap... looks like the cap flange was riveted on top of a piece of 3/8" ply that was screwed to the stringers then glassed.. little hard to tell as the floor had been worked on before... don't see anywhere were the deck was ever tabbed into the hull and the wood floor is only in the center of the boat (in what i'll call the tub section of the cap) the bow & stern sections are all glass raised higher then the tub area and all glass... also notices that the stringers don't go all the way to the transom, the dead end on the hull just short of it? How much do I need to be concerned about flexing once I remove the cap? it's on the trailer supported on 4 bunks.. Will I have to build a cradle? PS. Thanks woodonglass for the help with the pics..
