Hi everybody.I just purchased a 1995 Seaswirl 201 bowrider with a 5.0 efi ford motor and a volvo sx outdrive. We used the boat every day for a week while on vacation and it ran great. I decided while at home to give the motor a tune-up. When I finished I fired the motor up for about 10 seconds or so just to make sure she ran ok. (without water muffs!) Wellll we went to the lake and the motor got hot just as we cleared the no wake zone so I shut it down and called a buddy for a tow back to our houseboat. The guys at the dock say I screwed up the impeller. Does this sound about right?

well i hit the key and it started. I turned around and looked at the motor for a quick check then turned it off and closed the hatch. Would it be that little rubber impeller?

Re: Newbe Overheating problem.

the problem with impellors is they use water to cool and in my book from mercury they show the impellor after 10 seconds run and it doesnt look good ... if it started melting then when you put it in the water and started it ... that might have finished the impellor veins but at least you shut it off and didnt do any more damage .. good luck

I shut the motor off when I saw the temp gauge start going up at the lake so it didnt get really hot. The motor started fine later in the day in the water but I only let it run for a sec to make sure it would start.

Put 2 & 2 together. It didn't overheat before u ran it dry, right? Your impeller is fried.

Take the old impeller off, bring it to the dealer & see if he'll match it up.
