New water pump lubrication

Hi All, When installing a new water pump impeller, what is the best thing to initially lubricate it? I have heard grease or Vaseline but heard these also may not be the best? Also on the base wear plate...is the gasket by itself ok or should you have some type of sealant on it too? Thanks for any info! Steve

It really doesn't need any lubrication except some like to do it for ease of squeezing it into the housing. I'd use dish soap if I were going to use any lube (which I normally don't). Water lubricates it as soon as you dunk it.

I suppose the gasket depends on what motor you are working on (?)

I use dish soap on the impellers.
