2003 Key West Bow Rider with 2003 Mercry Salt Water series owner donated boat and I may buy it . The owner says it hasn't run since 2010. That it needs a new top end what does that mean? Is it worth fixing boat is available at 4,000.00 is it worth buying? Does the gas tank have to be removed if boat wasn't properly winterized?

Re: New top end

Isn't there another "exact" thread on this somewhere that you posted? "new top end" = new power head, I would assume. In other words, the motor is shot and I'm sure it has nothing to do with winter. Start pricing new motors for it and then you'll have your answer.

Re: New top end

Welcome to iboats. I closed your duplicate thread.

It means you are going to need to have the entire top end of the engine rebuilt from a low price of maybe $2500 up to 10-14K for a replacement new motor.

Unless you are flush with cash it is almost easier and cheaper to shop for a new boat/motor/trailer combo.

So if you really want that boat it is going to be at least a big investment........ if the engine was killed in 7 years I wonder how the hull was cared for?

Keep shopping. Look at the used boats in iboats which you can "drill down" to your area. http://boats.iboats.com/
