I had a 25 on a 14' and would crouch forward of the seat, putting my weight as far forward as I could, to get on a plane, then back to the seat.
Speaking of the bow rise when I was a teen-aged river rat, one of my compatriots took off from the dock showing off with the bow way up and when it flattened down so he could see, he saw the side of a 45' sailboat which he drilled his 16' into. Luckily no one hurt but the boat was!
