I have a 1995 suzuki 2 stroke 25 hp outboard engine and am new to outboards I have owned before two seadoo jet boats and just have a general question well actually two. When I took it out it seemed to run fine and then I noticed water spraying from what seems to be about 3/4 inch exhaust hole the water still squirts fine out the pee hole but kus wondering if that is normal didn't notice this till the end of the day also I went to flush the motor because of running it in salt water and could not get it to pee but a very little bit but it pees good in the water is there a trick to putting the muffs on or when to turn the water on or something lol sorry very new to outboards but got a very good general idea about the motors just wondering bout simple things sorry but and help us appreciated thanks. Also sorry bout grammar and spelling I am in a cell phone and not good at it thanks again though

Re: new to outboard motors

Welcome to iboats and outboards.

The water out of the exhaust is normal. In fact older outboards didn't have an indicator stream and only had the water going out the exhaust. In fact when at speed most of the water is probably going out the exhaust. On your motor most of the exhaust exits through the prop and some will go out the hole at the rear of the motor. As long as there is a strong indicator stream you are pumping water good and things are good.

Now, when flushing the motor is it important to provide an adequate water supply. You should place the muffs on the lower unit so that there is a tight seal over the water intake. You should turn on the water full, provide as much pressure as possible. Once you start the water, quickly start the motor.

You should have as strong of an indicator stream as when the motor is idling in the water. If you don't have sufficient water volume from your hose the motor may be trying to pump more water than is available and the stream is weak.

Thanks probably had something to do with the water pressure I did not have the water all the way on because of the water squirting out around the muffs so when I try it again ill make sure my water is wide open how long do I need to flush it also how big of a deal is it to flush it after salt water

you should always flush after salt water if you can. it will eat away at internal parts. also run for about 2-3 mins should clean it all out.

Getting wet from the water spraying out the muffs is much preferable to overheating your engine. It doesn't take long.

And just to be clear, Water should be wide open, motor should be at idle or close to it. Don't open the throttle on the motor any more than you have to.
